This is mostly a more philosophical/toilet thoughts topic but…

Does any of you use them? For me, their quality/becoming a living ad aside, I pretty much only use sling straps, and they are just too short for that. Actually I feel it’s pretty crappy they can only be used on the neck, where even an average mirrorless/lens dangling for hours d certainly hurt you, instead of explaining/giving some alternative options new people could be oblivious about.

Isn’t it also a bit odd how manufacturers include just the same strap from their most entry models, up to the multi-thousand dollar flagships? Like, I don’t expect a PD strap with a, dunno 4000D, but wouldn’t you expect better if you a shelling $4000 or something?

Anyway, dinner time!

I use leather straps, waist level crossed on shoulders like a bag, rather than hanging from the neck. I buy them from this british guy who have been hand making them and selling them on ebay for almost a decade. They wouldn’t be adequate for big dslrs but they’re perfect for mirrorless setups.

They’re very low profile and they’re great to wrap around the hand when they’re not on the shoulders.

It’s a bit silly but always thought oem straps were tacky as hell, besides being super uncomfortable.

I sell cameras and suggest to people to not use the Nikon/Canon straps as they just advertise to the world what camera they have to steal. Years ago I went on a school trip and my teacher had a d2hs plus a 24-70 80-200 kit in a Nikon branded backpack. Well some thief saw that Nikon bag and jacked his camera. Luckily my teacher had insurance on the gear but still. The less you advertise the better. I’m using a black rapid strap from my old Nikon setup on my Fuji and love how much more cushion it gives me. Before that I was using my father strap he had in the 80s.

I’ve heard this “fact” being repeated for a very long time and I don’t buy it. A big expensive camera looks big and expensive regardless of what strap you have on it.

You are absolutely right tbh. However my limit is at camera backpacks. They are like shouting, yo, there are several thousand euros/dollars of gear packed in here! And they tend to be left around, in cars etc…

You definitely want to go for a bag that doesn’t scream “cameras”.

That said, both myself and they guy I share a studio with have multiple Peli cases with camera and lighting gear in them, which have stickers on the outside that indicate what’s inside. We came to the conclusion that a Peli usually has something worth nicking inside anyway and it’s more useful for us or an assistant (who might be on their first job with you) to know what’s inside without having to go searching. Besides the chances of someone being able to outrun you while lugging a massive flight case are pretty small anyway!

I use Hyperion because being round they just go on and off and I don’t have to worry. Doesn’t hurt they look nice and don’t advertise to thiefs what I carry. I have shoulder and wrist straps from them. I’m not a pro, so it works great for me use

I use a hippie strap you can buy on Amazon. The comfort is fine I guess, but it looks really cool. I also use the Peak Design Anchors so I can swap my strap between my cameras.

I added 5mm thick neoprene strips to my peak slide on the shoulder, yes it limits your ability to slide it and change it up but I already have a wrist strap for the other body so have a dedicated cross body strap pretty much. It made it so I could carry it all day without complaining vs after a hour wanting to jump off the nearest building if I had a zoom on their, the 85mm 1.4g isn’t so bad or even the 35-70mm but RIP me that 80-200 2.8D is built like damn tank.

They worked for years and years. With kit lenses they are perfectly fine but when you upgrade to big 200mm 2.8f lenses the quality becomes apparent in the way it distributes the weight

I just can not use a neck strap. It kills my back and neck. The sling is so much better

Having read every comment on this thread. It depends on what camera you use, what lens you use, how you use it, why you use it, and how you carry it.

I use OEM because Nikon flagship straps are indestructible and comfy on my shoulders with a 70-200 2.8 on, but put that round my neck and j want to die. A thin Fuji strap with an xt2 and an 18-55 is fine. I imagine something like a D5600 will have a worse strap, as it’s made for a smaller lens and camera

Strap on my d3200 was surprisingly efficient until I hung a nikkor 70-300mm VR2 off the front of it lol. Now I’m peak design for life.

Only my sigma 120-300 2.8 has a strap on it. My d750, pen fv and n80 all have peak loops (whatever they’re called).

My d4s’s, d800, d3x and anything else I have laying around have none.
