I’m 100% convinced that one specific ref in our conference will intentionally stand in front of my for basketball. Then again he has been in the conference so long that it shows how bad he is (we’re low level D1 so anyone good enough moves out, hes been here a decade).

wreeper007@alien.topBtoPhotography•Cropping photos - am I being unreasonable / ridiculous?English1·2 years agoI wrote an action for situations like this with my work. It will detect portrait or landscape and place the image in a white square. Its not full size but the composition stays consistant.
There is also the possibility of using one of those apps for seamless scrolling.
wreeper007@alien.topBtoPhotography•how do you take photos for for inside winter sports/hockey?English1·2 years agoWith sports the general full of thumb is playing surface side (sidelines) or lower (basketball, volleyball, baseball if lucky).
That’s not to say you can’t get some neat shots from not at those angles but they are usually either exceptional (lens mounted directly above home plate shooting down, behind basketball backboard) or part of a larger story (Nebraska volleyball in their football stadium this year as a wide shot showing the scale).
I’ve never shot hockey but there should be cutouts for lenses. Luckily you don’t need a large opening to shoot through.
Wrestling could be much trickier as they pivot so much
bump your iso up
wreeper007@alien.topBtoPhotography•Has anyone considered the value for shutter count?English1·2 years agoSo I shoot 200k shots a year. As long as you are aware of when your shutter count gets close to the average limit and have a backup plan (a second body, even if its cheap) you are fine.
Hopefully I will only be shooting on these d4s’s for another year and will move up to z9’s but i don’t think much about shutter count. If a shutter craps out on me I just swap over to the other body I have with me and send it off for a $500 replacement.
And 1k images in 1-1.5 hrs isn’t that much really, I shoot that in 45 mins for a soccer half.
wreeper007@alien.topBtoPhotography•What to do with professional shots after a deathEnglish1·2 years agoTalk to the library system, they might want it for their collection.
Only my sigma 120-300 2.8 has a strap on it. My d750, pen fv and n80 all have peak loops (whatever they’re called).
My d4s’s, d800, d3x and anything else I have laying around have none.
Side note, there is nothing wrong about presets and this idea that not using them is better is just wrong.
As a professional you should be striving to be as efficient as possible and presets allow that.
