I don’t want to be one of those “speak to the manger!” people,

You’re not one of those people if you’re making a reasonable request for something you’ve paid for! You need to tell her so you can get your money back and find another photographer on such short notice. Most are already booked for Christmas. Btw mini sessions are different than full sessions, it’s probably why she didn’t try to fit you in to her mini schedule

You should communicate this to the tattoo shop just in case (if you didn’t already). Just say something like “by the way, I did just want to let you know, I’m just starting out. If you’re still ok with me coming by, but I will understand if you’d prefer I not.” Or something like that.

“so who are you and why are you here?” and im just going to die of embarrassment

Why would you die of embarrassment? You’re the photographer there to take a few pictures. You’re gonna have to get comfortable being around strangers and making them feel like they’re your best friend if you want to do portraits

Are they bad shadows or just darker areas? Either way, don’t give out unedited photos. Offer to re-edit BUT only if it’s a reasonable request. Of course there’s going to be shadows, otherwise everything would be really flat. Btw since she just started, be aware that there are people that will complain and complain about pictures in the hope of getting a refund and basically a free shoot.

I would reach out to the vendor. There’s nothing that says they can’t tag the other photographer for organizing the shoot but also acknowledge that they are YOUR photos. I also think a lot of people in this thread don’t know what a “styled shoot” is. You weren’t a second shooter at a wedding, she invited you along to the shoot. Like a collaborative shoot. I’ve organized group shoots before and I wouldn’t take credit for the work of other photographers, that’s just crazy

I’m in the same boat 😅 upgraded from a 6D to an R6. I don’t mind replacing the 50mm but I have a 24-70L and a 100L. I really don’t want to spend the money for an RF 24-70 and I’ve heard the 100 isn’t great. I don’t mind using them with the converter but I don’t like the bulk it adds soooo I don’t know what to do

I love watching Gavin Hoey on YouTube. He’s one of the first people I started learning with and then stopped because I thought I had outgrown him and because I hardly ever use external light. I’ve recently been getting more into studio work and started watching his videos again. They’re still great! He explains everything so well and it just clicks.

    Quality over quantity.

It doesn’t matter how many pictures you take if you’re not trying to consistently improve. I’ve been doing this for ten years and I still have moments when I think, “wow I suck.” But other times I’m like “ok that’s not bad.” Keep shooting, it’s the only way to get better.
