You can’t expect to manually find focus every time with f1.4 it’s impossible to do even by seasoned professionals.

First, put your camera in autofocus. Then fine tune the lens focus from the in camera menu, using a ruler in various distances, and trying focusing on a certain value.

For example by focusing (auto) at the number 5 of the ruler and then opening the image and looking it at 100% you can understand easy if your af frontfocuses or backfocuses. So then apply finentuning adjustments from the camera menu until your focus is sharp where you need it. Do this for all distamces, close medium far.

So after this you can also increase dof for example.shoot portraits at 2.8 or 3.5, you can still get a nice blurry background but more sharpness out of your lens because you stopped down to the point that is 2x your lenses most open value and ia usually the sharpest setting on a lens, which lasts until about f8-f11 before having the sharpness quality drop slightly.

  • Don’t make it complicated is my opinion. Go for $100 per gig, it’s a cool rate for Canada. For the comedians, well, I would prefer to play along nice with them because they might bring more work along in another way if they like their pictures and see that you are generous. For example, portrait session of themselves.

1st tip: Don’t stick with your camera, use it for practice but keep renting more advanced cameras for work.

2nd tip: You need to be as a good editor as photographer. Without good editing you won’t achieve the results you are after for you or clients. So jump right into it.

This is a freelancer thing always. Every next month I feel like going unemployed.

Look, it might ruin your life if you quit your 9-5. Stability is a much more valuable asset. Through stability, your dream can be achieved, nothing will prevent you of doing photography on the side. Will you be able to achieve stability through your dream?

Honestly, you quit editing in Lr. The thing is that even if you go ahead and create those settings that bring your reference and your target images close, then most probably you will lose the vibe in the next image you load up. Then Lr can only do so much, because it is meant as a developing tool and not a color grading tool. So consistency will remain as long as you are editing the same set and then on your next shooting you need to start all over again.

I would suggest a 3DLUT based workflow. So for example from my work I am using analog film simulating LUTs. First in Lr I only flatten the contrast settings in the images, then open in Ps, a color lookup adjustment and load a 3DLUT onto them. Adjust the opacity and more than often I am done while all my library looks very consistent. I also don’t use only one LUT a few more (3 for color, 2 for BW) and still the color looks very consistent thoughout my insta.

Should do the trick, but If you need more info or a tutorial let me know I’ll make something.
