For portrait work I recommend at least an 85mm 1.4.
But lighting equipment is very important if you want to do indoor shoots. You need multiple lights, light stands, and backdrops.
Maybe start out with a reflector and do outdoor shoots first. Honestly, I like outdoor shoots more. If you’re doing Instagram then that’s the path.
Reflectors work great as well.
You’re probably looking to get some fill.
One of those stands with a boom arm holding a reflector can do it.
The secret to good photos is lighting. Dynamic lighting.
12 noon when the sun is overhead is garbage.
Sunrise or sunset is the best. Especially if the light bounces off or filters through something. You get some really nice photos.
Christmas time has lots of lights and decorations up. You can take pictures with those in the background.
You also need a good subject. A lot of YouTubers bring their girlfriend or female friends. I personally bring my dogs although they are horrible subjects. As dashing as they look, they move around. I got a wife but shes not interested in my antics lol.
Businesses should be more clear with customers but ultimately it’s up to the customers to ask questions if they don’t know.
For example if someone goes into a restaurant and start ordering off pictures in the window and didn’t see any pricing. Then complain about pricing when the bill arrived, who’s fault is it?
There’s multiple opportunities to ask as well.
