Yeah. The sharpness in the corners of my nikon Z primes, even when shooting wide open, is seriously impressive.

Especially in the context of professional work which this post seems to be about. You are getting paid to deliver a product, that product being photos of a specific subject. The client doesnt care what goes into it as long as they receive the product that they paid for.

Running a photography business takes more business skill than it does photography skill. The unfortunate reality is that there are way more people who want to be professional photographers than there is a market for it, and that the photography skills needed to take pictures professionally in a lot of different areas are really not that advanced.

Look at the advice from almost any professional photographer- they all say to focus on business/networking because that is what will help you the most.

I think one of the biggest sources of conflict is between working professionals and casual hobbiests. From the pro photographers perspective, they dont want to answer stupid questions that could easily be googled. From the beginner/ hobbiest perspective, they are joining what they hoped would be a supportive community and are met with hostility over their lack of knowledge/skill.

Ignoring the obvious stuff like cost and legality, as a landscape photographer I will say that it really doesn’t appeal to me a ton.

Half the fun of landscape photography for me is getting out and exploring new areas, and capturing pictures of cool things I see with my own eyes. Id much rather spend my day hiking around the woods playing around with different compositions than spend it staring at the screen on a drone controller. Photography for me isnt just about the final image, its about the process.

I dont like digital cameras

To me, it seems like every feature in digital cameras seems to be replacing the skill or dedication that used to be needed to make a good photograph.

Cant be arsed to develop your film in a darkroom? Dont worry, with a DSLR you can see the images you take immediately after you shoot them. Dont want to bother getting your exposure right yourself? No worries, just slap the camera on auto mode and it will do all the work for you.

I can’t help but think certain things are intrinsic to actually being a photographer and the over production of these cameras features takes away from the skills required to be good.

My 2 cents.

Photography helped me a lot through my depression. It motivated me to get out and do something on days when I otherwise would have just sat around my room spiraling into a worse and worse place. Im in a better place now but photography was one of the things that helped me the most through some of my shittiest times.

Astrophotography. Pretty much the only time I find autofocus is not sufficient

I cant say for sure but I would assume so. My unmodified nikon Z6 works, and nikon uses sony sensors

Sometimes I forget to take my camera off of high speed burst after shooting action, so my first landscape shot of the day I end up with 30 identical images of a tree

Its always funny to me how ill take more photos in one afternoon of shooting action then I will in a full year of landscape photography.

Interestingly mine has gone way up, but its not that im taking significantly more good photos, im just taking less bad ones. In a day of landscape photography where 3 years ago I might have taken 200 photos and kept 5, I might now only take 10 photos but keep 6 or 7.

So many car photographers shoot literally the exact same shots. Same exact angles of the car, same focal lengths, same editing style.
