Hello.

I’m a client with a product that is made from several ingredients and in the past with previous photo studios, it has always been difficult taking images of our product along with the ingredients it’s made from because they’re very ugly/unaesthetic fruits.

For example, we tried placing our product alongside some medjool dates and another similar looking fruit and they came out looking horrible. The other fruit looks even uglier because it comes in a weird looking fruit pod that is just so orange and dusty and cracked looking.

Even taking a glance via google, I couldn’t find a nice looking photo of the fruit because it’s just not pleasing to look at compared to, let’s say a sliced lemon.

Could anyone offer some advice? We’d really like to include the dates and the other fruit in the shoot.

Thanks!

Try some nice closeups of someone’s hand holding the fruit! Hands are warm and expressive. It’ll give it context and make it more tactile.

If you want to see great photos of ugly produce, look at Edward Weston’s photos. He took a lot of portraits and artistic nudes, and one of his most famous photos is a closeup of a green pepper. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_No._30

It’s so sharp, detailed, and artfully lit that you just want to pick it up. You can nearly feel it by looking at it.
