I’m a hobbyist who enjoys street and landscape photography, and after getting diminishing returns and burn out by posting on Instagram, my photos started amassing in my lightroom library - never to be seen by anyone! I have a website (Adobe Portfolio), but I rarely use it, and it doesn’t bring me that much joy.

I recently came across Substack, which is a newsletter/blog type website where you can create long form content, and in my case, photo essays and commentary. This has been a really satisfying alternative to posting on social media - I enjoy writing and it feels like I’m putting more intention behind my work. I think Substack will take off, and I enjoy the niche community of photographers on it.

How are you sharing your photos these days? And, if you’re not, why not? What do you think the future is for sharing photography?

And if you’re a Substacker already - I’d love to follow you! If this subreddit allows it, drop your Substack below :)

Hours? Days go by for me. Boooooo. I used to average 30-40 likes and a new follower for each post and these days I’m lucky to get 10 likes without boosting.

I think they’re tanking my algo unless I pay to boost so I stopped caring and post things I like - and try not to fret. Still - people seem so scared to hit ‘like’ and I wish the comments there were anything like the brave sassy comment chains here. I’m very free with my likes and support all my friends and their posts - but it is not reciprocated.

But if friends are at work in the bathroom I know they won’t click ‘like’ - or probably my ‘friends’ who don’t want to show outwardly that they like my stuff. Even my husband says it’s too much pressure to like all my stuff. Sad. Makes me think my work is shit but I still like it so I’m still posting my faves. Gotta put it out there and pretend I don’t care.

What gen are you? My gen hits likenon everything, doesn’t mean much honestly. So I guess you’re at a disadvantage here against people who have a base thay would like everything.
