I’m not new to photography—I’ve had a business for almost 3 years now—but I just got a new camera and I’m wondering if people have any suggestions for filters for event photography (with a flash)? Are there any that help with certain aspects of photographing with a flash, like softness, shadows, etc?

More than anything, I’d love to know what you personally use, whether it be the brand or type of filter. :)

I’d try a black mist for that. But any filter you add reduces light transmission, often by a stop or more, which is typically not what you want at night. You might end up with harsher shadows because you need more flash power. If you want softer shadows the answer is bigger modifiers and better light positioning ie off camera strobes.
