So, I’m about to lose it.
I have a Canon EOS 4000D. I bought a Canon macro lens (EF-M 28mm) which turns out isn’t compatible with my camera. I bought a mount adapter because I really just wanted the lens to attach (EF-EOS M), and it fits my camera but not the macro lens. Today, I received a lens mount adapter (MD-EOS) and that also fits the camera but not the lens.
WHAT IS UP WITH THIS LENS?? What did I buy? What should I have bought? I feel really stupid, and I really, really just want to take some damn praying mantis face closeups.
Please help. I have, like, $1,200 worth of equipment that’s effectively useless for me right now.

it is impossible to put an EF-M lens on a DSLR
M cameras and DSLRs have been pretty much abandoned by Canon. So have their associated lenses. So… those things are presently available at bargain rates. u paid 1200 for those three items??? Could have got them for less at keh or mpb or canon usa refurbished.
so… u buy an M camera…the m50 or m50 mark II or m6 mark II (with EVF) and use the EF-M 28 on it
or u buy a macro lens and put it on the 4000D
I would go with the M system…
both ecosystems are now being orphaned but M cameras are smaller and have newer, easier to use technology.

You have a DSLR camera and a Mirrorless camera lens. You can adapt a DSLR lens to work on mirrorless cameras but not a lens made for mirrorless to work on a DSLR. Generally.
Good news: you bought a cool lens! You could sell your older DSLR and get a new mirrorless Canon camera. OR you should be able to sell the new cool lens and buy a cheaper, older lens that works on your older canon dslr.
Lastly, I don’t do bunch of macro photography, but I would say that most folks who want to photograph insects use a longer macro lens than a 28mm allowing them to be a bit further away from the bug. Assuming you already researched that part ignore me, but if you didn’t then do research it.
Either sell your camera (and adapters) and get m50 so something similar, or sell the lens (and adapters), and look into EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro or 35mm f/2.8 Macro.
Or EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro…

EF-M lenses are designed to project their focused image 18mm behind the mount flange. Your camera body puts its imaging sensor 44mm behind the mount flange and an adapter will add even more distance so the lens would be way too far away and you wouldn’t be able to focus on anything. An adapter with corrective optics to fix the focusing range would significantly reduce image quality and would not be worth using. I don’t think any such adapters exist.
You need to return or sell that lens and research more carefully before your next purchase.

Adapters are labeled with the lens mount first and the camera body mount second. If you get the two reversed, it’s not going to work for you. That would fit EF lenses to an EF-M body. You have an EF-M lens and EF/EF-S body.

That would be for certain kinds of Minolta lenses, which you aren’t using.
