My best friend asked me to take her and her fiancés engagement photos this upcoming Wednesday. I haven’t taken pictures in a while. I have a canon eos rebel t7 with a decent lens. What would the best way to go about taking pictures of them. She gave me some ideas for poses that they want but other than that I’m clueless.

    Keep it natural.

    Have fun.

Give specific directions because some people aren’t comfortable in front of the camera.

If you see them do something that you didn’t instruct them, but you liked it, don’t be afraid to ask them to recreate.

Scout the location(s) ahead of time so you know where you want to go and have an idea of the shots and the light for that time of day.

Have a list of poses and places. Be sure to check them off as you do them.

Make sure you’re stopping and checking your shots early on and occasionally throughout. Never fun to get home and realize you’re seeing too many out of focus or you were shooting without a card.

Bring a blanket in case you want to take photos with people sitting on the ground, if outside. Make sure the blanket is appropriate and doesn’t clash with the colors everyone is wearing.

Bring at least a couple cards and a couple batteries. Swap out cards halfway through that way if the card goes tits up you still have shots in the other.

Each time you take a shot, judge the composition as if you were looking at someone else’s photo. Is there stray hairs you don’t want? Pants sagging and showing underwear? Background growing out the couple’s head? Make the corrections to the shots then, because it’s not always easy to get the couple to go back out and do the shoot again. And heavy editing isn’t always fun.
