Hey , I bought this photo way back and just love the style of it - how it’s a “floating head”… but I’ve always wondered how I could achieve this same outcome (what gear or settings would I need to setup) . It’s an all black background with just the head present , very detailed and almost monochromatic (but with grays, blacks, skintones, whites)

Similar to this idea, but much more detailed and focused on the face and less harsh lighting…

I’m a newbie, I have a decent camera? And just never know what to search when looking for techniques to do this .

When your subject is far from the wall and you have a decent light source coming from the bottom angle lighting just that subjects face (especially light skin tones), then there’s more light on the face then anywhere in the photo. If you increase the contrast in post processing, the background will go to black and the face will brighten up. You can make this pop in this style from a slight s curve as well.
